As per reports, a large group of pro-Palestinian protestors took over and shut down the California State Capitol building in Sacramento on Wednesday (03 January).
• Hundreds of protesters have disrupted the Assembly session on opening day, demanding a permanent ceasefire and an end to all US military aid to Israel.
• Reportedly, slogans such as ‘Ceasefire now’ and ‘Jews Say: Not In Our Name’ were chanted and could be seen on large posters hanging from the balcony railings as well as on t-shirts worn by many in the group.
• Reports also indicate that the protests displaced a large black circular mat on the floor that read ‘30,000 killed in Palestine’. It was covered with a ring of red poppies, each poppy representing 20 Palestinian lives lost in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
• Subsequently, the California Assembly went into recess due to the presence of almost 100 protestors in the building’s rotunda.
