As per reports, on Thursday (11 September), the Union of Employees and Workers of Education (Sintrenal) announced that it may escalate to an indefinite national strike in Colombia due to the Government’s non-compliance with labour agreements.

• The union cited longstanding unpaid labor debts exceeding ten years and the lack of progress in addressing historical obligations as primary concerns.
• A peaceful national protest was held on Thursday (11 September), at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Bogotá, affecting administrative operations in the Secretariats of Education across 97 certified territorial entities.
• Among the union’s main demands is the immediate presence of the Minister of Education to establish a direct negotiation table for dialogue and resolution.
• The union also calls for the fulfilment of previously signed agreements, certification and payment of accumulated labor debts, and full guarantees for the rights of over 30,000 administrative employees.
• The Central Unitary of Workers (CUT) has expressed support for Sintrenal’s mobilisation and warned that, if the Government does not address these concerns by Friday (12 September), it will join in calling for an indefinite national strike.
