As per reports, the Train Drivers’ Union (SMAQ) has called for a strike that will impact Porto Metro services from Tuesday (17 December) to Sunday (22 December). The strike is attributed to unresolved issues concerning the payment of an annual performance bonus and other labour-related grievances with ViaPorto, part of the Barraqueiro Group, which operates Porto Metro.
• On the Yellow Line (D), trains will run every six minutes on weekdays between Hospital São João and Santo Ovídio, while on weekends, the frequency will decrease to every 10 minutes.
• Along the Common Trunk section (Senhora da Hora–Estádio do Dragão), trains will operate every four minutes on weekdays and every six minutes on weekends. The planned increase in service capacity for the weekend before Christmas has been canceled.
• The union’s demands center around the non-payment of an annual performance bonus, which is mandated under the Company Agreement (AE). The employer, ViaPorto, part of the Barraqueiro Group, has delayed the bonus payment, citing financial losses.
• Other grievances include delays in converting temporary staff to permanent positions and excessive overtime work without proper compensation. The SMAQ has also announced further strike actions towards the end of the year if these issues remain unresolved.
