As per reports, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued an orange-level alert for severe cold weather conditions affecting the Brazilian states of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso do Sul, parts of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rondônia, and São Paulo. The alert, indicating a situation of danger, remains in effect until the end of Tuesday (24 June).
• According to Inmet, a significant cold front is expected to cause a temperature drop exceeding five degrees Celsius across nearly 2,000 municipalities. These low temperatures pose potential health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
• The cold front is also forecast to bring rainfall across several regions, including the north of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, the south of Mato Grosso do Sul, and the southern zone of São Paulo.
• Additionally, the combination of cold temperatures and rainfall is likely to result in localized snowfall in mountainous regions of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina between the night of Monday (23 June) and the morning of Tuesday (24 June).
