As per reports from MetService New Zealand, a heavy rainfall warning (Orange) has been issued for the Buller District, in effect on Sunday (19 October). The warning accompanies a frontal rain band preceded by strong to gale-force northwesterlies moving north across the northern South Island overnight.
• The forecast indicates 50–70 mm of rainfall in the ranges, with peak rates between 10–20 mm/hour, and lesser amounts in lower areas.
• The weather system follows earlier rainfall, increasing the likelihood of rapid river rises, surface flooding, and slips in vulnerable areas.
• The alert is expected to remain at the Orange level, with minimal likelihood of escalation to a Red Warning.
