As per reports, the Department of the Taoiseach has announced that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to conduct an official heritage visit to County Mayo on Sunday (14 June).

• The prime minister is traveling to the region to trace his paternal family ancestry, as his grandparents originally emigrated from the locality.
• The high-profile official itinerary dictates that the Canadian leader is expected to spend much of the day within the town of Westport and the surrounding townlands.
• In Aughagower, the delegation is scheduled to attend a formal religious service at the local parish church, followed by a walk through the nearby community cemetery where his ancestors are interred.
• An increased security apparatus and specialized escort teams are deployed across the west of Ireland to facilitate the diplomatic transit corridors.
• The affected areas include the village center of Aughagower, the parish church grounds, the community cemetery, central municipal streets within Westport, and the primary regional routes connecting the two zones including the R330 corridor.
