As per reports, on Wednesday (12 February), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that if the telecommunications companies fail to revert to the old tariff by the end of February 2025, it will mobilize workers to shut-down their operations nationwide by 01 March 2025.
• Reports indicate that post the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Lokoja, Kogi State, the labour movement published a communique signed by NLC president, Joe Ajaero, and General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, wherein the NLC demanded an immediate reversal of the tariff hike which took effect on Thursday (13 February)
• Additionally, the CWC has reportedly directed that from Thursday (13 February), Nigerian workers and other willing citizens shall boycott the services of MTN (Mobile Telephone Networks), AIRTEL, and GLO (Globacom Limited) daily between 1100 hours to 1400 hours (local time) until the end of February 2025. It also called for the suspension of data purchases from the companies.
• The communique directed NLC State Councils to commence immediate sensitization and mobilization of their members and the general public within their jurisdictions. Moreover, all NLC affiliate Unions are also requested to mobilize their members across the country to observe electronic silence during the designated hours.
