As per reports, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for northern Pakistan, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms until Sunday (06 September).
• The expected rainfall may increase water flows in rivers, streams, nullahs and other seasonal waterways, while mountainous areas may experience landslides and debris flows.
• In Gilgit-Baltistan, flash flooding is possible in sensitive areas of Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Hunza, Astore, Skardu, Shigar and adjoining districts.
• In Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, vulnerable areas include Bagh, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Haveli, Bhimber, Sudhanoti, Mirpur and Kotli.
• In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Shangla, Battagram, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur, among other areas, may experience flash flooding.
• Nowshera, Peshawar, Swabi and Mardan are also at risk of urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and along connecting roads.
• The NDMA has advised residents, tourists and travellers to stay away from low-lying areas, riverbanks, rivers, streams, nullahs and seasonal waterways and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather
