As per reports, traders’ organizations and stakeholders across Malakand Division have organized a grand jirga or assembly on Wednesday (23 September) to discuss the imposition of provincial taxes and plan protest actions.
Following are the details:
• The grand jirga (assembly) will convene representatives, trade unions, and local stakeholders from all districts across Malakand Division.
• Participants are demanding the withdrawal of taxes enforced since 01 July and the preservation of Malakand Division’s constitutional special status.
• The federal government has constituted a committee comprising the federal finance minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, and Federal Board of Revenue officials to examine taxation matters in Malakand Division, PATA, and FATA areas.
