As per reports, CP Radhakrishnan, the candidate nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won the Vice Presidential election on Tuesday (09 September). Following are the details:
• CP Radhakrishnan was elected the 15th Vice President of India, after securing 452 out of a total of 767 polled votes. He defeated opposition INDIA bloc candidate and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, who polled 300 votes.
• 752 votes were valid and 15 were deemed invalid. 13 members of parliament (MPs) abstained from voting, including seven from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), four from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), one from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and one independent MP. Some cross-voting was also reported by opposition MPs.
• Voting began at 1000 hours, with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi casting the first ballot. It concluded at 1700 hours, and the counting of the ballots began at 1800 hours.
