According to reports, on Wednesday (17 July), an encounter between C60 commandos and Naxals on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border resulted in the neutralization of 12 Maoists, including a Senior Divisional Committee Member (DVCM), at Wandoli Village.
• The operation, led by Gadchiroli police, began after receiving information about 12-15 Naxals camping near the village. Seven C60 parties were deployed for the operation, which lasted over six hours.
• Police recovered 12 Maoist bodies and seized seven firearms, including three AK-47s, two INSAS rifles, a carbine, and an SLR, from the encounter site. Two of the deceased have been identified as DVCM Laxman Atram alias Vishal Atram and Sarite Parsa, an area committee member.
• Following the successful operation, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis announced a cash reward of INR 51 lakhs for the C60 commandos and Gadchiroli Police.
