As per reports, Mount Semeru, which is located on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies, East Java, experienced an eruption observed as high as 900 meters above the peak on Monday (14 October) at 2120 hours (WIB). The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) has issued an alert for possible volcanic eruptions.
Following regulations and guidelines have been issued in the area:
• The public is prohibited from carrying out any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan as far as eight kilometers from the peak (center of the eruption).
• People are not allowed to carry out activities within 500 meters of the river bank (river boundary) along Besuk Kobokan, because there is the potential for being hit by the expansion of hot clouds and lava flows up to a distance of 13 km from the peak.
