According to reports, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has announced a Janakrosh Morcha (public protest march) to the Mahavitaran office in Wagle Estate, Thane, on Wednesday (22 July).
• MNS members are protesting against the alleged mandatory installation of smart electricity meters, claiming that it is being done without obtaining consumers’ consent.
• Furthermore, the party alleged that several consumers have complained of receiving higher-than-usual electricity bills after smart meters were installed on a trial basis.
• The protest march will be led by MNS leader Avinash Jadhav, with organisers expected to submit a charter of 10 demands to the electricity distribution company regarding consumer rights and the smart meter programme.
