The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for Tamil Nadu on Monday (19 October).
• Forecast: An orange alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squalls has been issued for Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Chennai.
• Forecast: A yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squalls has been issued for Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Erode, Kallakurichi, Kanchipuram, Kanniyakumari, Karur, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Ranipet, Salem, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Theni, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tirupattur, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvarur, Vellore, Viluppuram and Virudhunagar.
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for moderate rainfall ranging between five and 15 millimetres per hour and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour has been issued for Chengalpattu, Chennai, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Kanchipuram, Kanniyakumari, Karur, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Theni, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Viluppuram and Virudhunagar. The alert is valid until 0400 hours (local time) on Monday (19 October).
