As per reports, Yemen’s Houthi movement (Ansar Allah) claimed responsibility for a missile strike on Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, on Sunday (17 August), using a hypersonic ballistic missile named “Palestine-2.”
• The strike reportedly forced the suspension of operations at the airport, halting arrivals and departures and triggering air raid sirens that sent crowds to shelters in the greater Tel Aviv area.
• Houthi spokesperson Yahya Seri stated that the strike was a response to Israeli military operations in Gaza and reiterated that attacks will continue until the blockade is lifted and operations against Palestinians are halted. The Houthis further warned of sustained attacks on Israeli infrastructure.
• In retaliation, the Israeli military announced strikes on a power plant south of Sanaa, Yemen, allegedly used by the Houthis. Explosions were reported near the Haziz Power Plant following Israeli naval strikes.
