As per reports, as of Wednesday (08 January), the Taiwanese Department of Disease Control and Prevention, under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, announced four new confirmed cases of measles in the country. Two of the confirmed cases of measles are linked to a cluster incident at the Central Hospital, while the other two were imported from Vietnam and India.
• In response, the Health Bureau of the Chiayi City Government advises individuals who may have been in contact with confirmed cases to monitor their health for 18 days.
• Those exhibiting suspected symptoms of measles are urged to promptly contact their local health bureau or station or call the Department of Disease Control and Prevention’s toll-free epidemic prevention hotline at 1922.
• The Bureau underscored that vaccination with the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine is the most effective preventive measure. It further advised parents to ensure that children aged one year and above are vaccinated at designated health centers.
• The Bureau has further asked travelers to maintain proper hand hygiene, wear masks in public spaces, and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms develop upon their return.
