McGill University’s bid for injunction to dismantle pro-Palestinian encampment denied on Wednesday (15 May)

Risk level: Low Country: Canada

As per reports, on Wednesday (15 May), Justice Marc St-Pierre, a Quebec Superior Court judge, ruled against McGill University’s request for an injunction to dismantle the pro-Palestinian encampment that has been set up on its downtown Montreal campus, Quebec, since late April 2024.

• The judge stated that the school did not prove the situation at the encampment as sufficiently urgent to justify the measure.
• He also stated that the case raised questions of conflicting rights, i.e., the protesters’ freedom of expression versus McGill University’s property rights.
