According to reports, the Maharashtra Anganwadi Workers’ Action Committee plans to launch an indefinite hunger strike starting Monday (23 September), at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. This protest stems from the workers’ demands for immediate government action to increase their honorarium, establish a monthly pension, and provide gratuity—proposals previously outlined by the Department of Women and Child Development.
• Despite assurances from senior officials, including the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers, no official action has been taken, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the Anganwadi workforce.
• In solidarity with the hunger strike in Mumbai, rallies and protests are also planned at the District Collector’s office in Pune and the Additional Tehsildar’s office in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Monday (23 September).
