According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Low Pressure Area (LPA) lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean as on Sunday (08 December). It is likely to cause heavy rainfall over South Peninsular India from Tuesday to Friday (10-13 December).

The LPA is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards thereafter and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri-Lanka – Tamil Nadu coasts around Wednesday (11 December).

• Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal: Light to moderate rainfall at a few places with heavy rainfall at isolated places from Tuesday to Friday (10-13 December). Isolated very heavy rainfall is also very likely over the region during Wednesday and Thursday (11-12 December).
• Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rainfall at a few places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely on Wednesday and Thursday (11-12 December).
• Kerala and Mahe and South Interior Karnataka: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely on Thursday and Friday (12-13 December).
• Coastal Karnataka: Light to moderate rainfall at isolated places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely on Friday (13 December).
