As per reports, between 5,000 and 7,000 people demonstrated during daytime hours in central Brussels on Monday (15 December) to denounce the austerity and cost-cutting measures planned from next year across all sectors of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB).

• The procession, composed of teachers, students, artists, and childminders, marched between Place du Luxembourg and the headquarters of the FWB government. Protesters also stopped in front of the headquarters of the party Les Engagés, where the building was pelted with eggs, indicating a degree of property-targeted disorder.
• The action took place 48 hours before the final vote on the 2026 budget by the Parliament of the French Community of Belgium (FWB), scheduled for Wednesday (17 December).
• The demonstration is linked to the MR–Engagés government’s plan to cut approximately EUR 225 million from next year’s budget, as part of efforts to curb a chronic deficit within a total spending envelope of around EUR 15 billion. Further demonstrations or escalations remain possible as the budget vote approaches.
