As per reports, the Belgian federal government approved the extension of Operation Urban Shield in Brussels for six months from Monday (21 September), under which about 50 military personnel are scheduled to support the Federal Police through mixed patrols at train and metro stations.
• Reportedly, the deployment is intended to support police operations linked to security concerns associated with drug trafficking and to reinforce security across the rail and metro network.
• Reports indicate that the new protocol also allows military personnel to support large-scale integrated police actions, known as Full Integrated Police Action (FIPA), under the government’s Large Cities Plan.
