As per reports, on Sunday (29 June), Météo-France has expanded the orange heatwave alert to 73 departments, covering the southern two-thirds of mainland France, including Île-de-France, Centre-Val de Loire, Burgundy, Rhône Valley, and the entire Mediterranean Arc.
• This represents a significant escalation from Saturday’s (28 June) alert that affected 14 departments.
• Temperatures are expected to range between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius across southern France, with frequent recordings of 39 to 40 degrees Celsius near the Mediterranean.
• In the Île-de-France region and northward toward Centre-Val de Loire and Burgundy, temperatures are expected to remain elevated, ranging from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius. These temperatures are well above seasonal norms and are accompanied by hot nights with minimum temperatures often above 20 degrees Celsius, and locally up to 27 degrees Celsius in the southeast and coastal regions.
• Météo-France has indicated that the intense heat is expected to continue into next week, with the peak anticipated around Tuesday (01 July) or Wednesday (02 July), depending on regional conditions.
