As per reports, traffic congestion has been reported following the installation of a new boarding point guide at the entrance of Myeong-dong. However, this installation has led to a bottleneck phenomenon, causing buses to get stuck in a narrow section and exacerbating traffic congestion.

• The most heavily affected stretch spans approximately 1.8 km from Seoul Station through Namdaemun to Myeong-dong.
• Thirteen signs were placed at intervals of about 1 meter on the pavement, indicating bus line numbers. During peak hours, these signs contribute to the formation of an “endless waiting queue” as buses navigate the challenge of stopping at each sign.
• Passengers have voiced concerns over increased waiting times and frustrations due to long queues forming along the 300-meter stretch in front of the Myeong-dong entrance. The fixed boarding and alighting positions mandated by the new system have led to delays, further exacerbating commuter dissatisfaction.
• While the city of Seoul installed these signs to address safety concerns related to passenger rush, commuters argue that the unintended consequence has been a worsening of congestion issues. Some have reported waiting times of up to 15 minutes even after the bus arrives at Myeong-dong.
• In response to the escalating complaints, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to reroute five out of the 29 bus lines passing through the Myeongdong entrance stop this month. The aim is to alleviate congestion and enhance the overall commuting experience for passengers in the area.
