The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a forecast for light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning in parts of Tamil Nadu until Tuesday (09 January).

• Saturday (06 January)- Yellow alert for thunderstorm and lightning is active in all the districts of the state except in Chennai.
• Sunday (07 January)- Orange alert for very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning has been issued in the distrcits of Chengalpattu, Cuddalore and Viluppuram. Yellow alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning has been issued in all other districts including Chennai. However, Coimbatore has no active warnings.
• Monday (08 January)- Yellow alert for thunderstorm and lightning has been issued for all the districts of the state except in Chennai, Cuddalore and Coimbatore.
• Tuesday (09 January)- Yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been in the districts of Tiruvallur, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.
