The Central Meteorological Observatory (CMO) has issued a forecast for heavy snowfall and strong winds on Wednesday (22 January), with a drop in temperature across China, due to a cold wave from Thursday (23 January) until Monday (27 January);
• According to the CMO, the heaviest snowfall is expected to impact parts of eastern Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Liaoning, Jilin, and southern Sichuan between Thursday-Friday (23-24 January).
• Additional light-moderate snowfall is likely in central Qinghai, the western mountainous areas of southern Xinjiang, and southeast Heilongjiang as per CMO, with heavy snowfall also forecast in northwest Xinjiang and southwest Tibet for Wednesday (22 January).
• Further, CMO has warned of sharp temperature drops exceeding 14 degrees Celsius in parts of northern China between Thursday-Monday (23-27 January).
• Rainfall transitioning to snow is likely in areas with previously higher temperatures, particularly in northern regions between Thursday-Monday (23-27 January).
