As per reports, the Municipal Emergency Operations Committee (COEM) convened on Wednesday (09 September) to address the escalating leishmaniasis situation in Ascensión de Guarayos.
• Hospital Municipal de Guarayos has recorded 47 confirmed cases of leishmaniasis across the municipality.
• COEM has issued a deadline until Saturday (12 September) for the Ministry of Health to dispatch essential medications required for treating affected patients.
• Municipal authorities stated that failure to meet this demand may prompt the formal declaration of a health emergency in Ascensión.
• Municipal authorities and local representatives have scheduled vector control and fumigation campaigns against the phlebotomine sandfly across rural areas on Saturday (12 September) and urban areas on Sunday (13 September).
