As per reports, industrial and captive power connections may have to witness a hike in gas prices after the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources decided to implement a new pricing structure, wherein the rate will be based on the actual cost of the imported liquified natural gas (LNG).
A proposal has been sent to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) by Petrobangla to revise the prices. If the proposal is accepted, which includes self-generated, gas-fired electricity within industries, then users will have to pay BDT 75.72 per cubic meter for their gas use beyond sanctioned load. Currently, they pay BDT 30.75 per cubic meter. A VAT of 15 percent would also be imposed.
