As per reports, Chile’s Interior Minister announced that at least 92 forest fires were burning in the center and south of Chile as of Saturday (03 February), amid high temperatures in the area.

• Forest fires burning in Valparaíso in central Chile have so far led to at least 19 deaths and destroyed about 1,100 homes.
• As per authorities, the deadliest of these fires were burning in the region of Valparaiso, where residents have been urged not to leave their homes so firetrucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles can transit for firefighting operations.
• The fires have been burning in the towns of Viña del Mar, Limache, Quilpué and Villa Alemana, where authorities have ordered massive evacuations on Friday (02 February).
• Due to the fires, President Gabriel Boric declared a state of emergency on Friday (02 February), which allows the government to quickly mobilize resources.
• The fires emerged simultaneously, and expanded rapidly overnight affecting several areas of the Valparaíso region, with many of the fires burning on hills and areas with difficult access.
• The fires affected operations at Valparaíso metro, several bridges, two bus terminals, four medical centers and three nursing homes.
• Authorities predict high temperatures with wind gusts of 40 kmph reaching up to 60 kmph on Saturday (03 February), which may further fuel the fires.
