As per reports, heavy rainfall in parts of the West Zone on Wednesday (03 January) night flooded streets and affected the circulation of SuperVia trains.
• Rainfall of more than 30 millimeters (mm) an hour was recorded in Rio by 2055 hours local time on Wednesday (03 January).
• During the same time period, moderate rainfall was reported in several neighborhoods: Bangu (five mm), Campo Grande (four mm), Madureira (3.4 mm), Piedade (2.2 mm), and Barra/Riocentro (1.6 mm). Between 2045 and 2100 hours local time on Wednesday (03 January), heavy rainfall was reported on Avenue Brasil/Mendanha (10.8 mm) and Anchieta (10.4 mm).
• SuperVia’s energy system was also affected, causing trains to Santa Cruz to run only between the Central stations of Brazil and Campo Grande.
• The stretch between the Benjamim do Monte and Santa Cruz stations was closed for boarding and disembarking.
• On Thursday (04 January), moderate to heavy rainfall with wind is expected in the aforementioned region.
