As per reports, a fire incident occurred at the Thai Plastic and Chemicals Co., Ltd. within the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, on Sunday (22 September), prompting the declaration of a Level 2 emergency. No injuries have been reported.
The fire, which generated a significant amount of smoke, is currently being managed using SCG fire engines. The Emergency Incident Command Center (EIC) reported that the chemical involved is vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), leading to evacuation measures for downwind areas up to two kilometers. Residents are advised to wear multiple layers of face masks to protect against dust and soot, with symptoms such as eye and nose irritation to be monitored.
