As per reports, emergency services are responding to a major industrial fire that broke out during the early hours of Tuesday (30 June) at an industrial facility located on Begastri Street in Cehegín, Murcia, Spain.
• The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre of the Region of Murcia began receiving numerous emergency calls at approximately 0445 hours local time (0245 hours UTC) reporting intense flames and multiple explosions at the site.
• Upon arrival, the Cehegín Local Police confirmed that the fire was affecting a company that reportedly stores chemical products. The intensity of the fire and repeated explosions have complicated firefighting operations and have initially prevented authorities from precisely identifying the affected industrial facility.
• Firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium (Consorcio de Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento de la Región de Murcia – CEIS), together with the Cehegín Local Police and the Civil Guard (Guardia Civil), remain deployed to contain the fire, secure the surrounding area, and support ongoing emergency operations.
• As a precautionary measure, the Cehegín Town Council has advised residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid the vicinity of the El Muladar Industrial Park. Authorities also instructed residents and businesses to keep doors and windows closed to minimise smoke entering buildings, limit non-essential travel within the affected area, and strictly follow instructions issued by emergency responders.
• In addition, all outdoor activities organised by the Cehegín Town Council have been suspended until further notice as a preventive safety measure.
• Emergency operations remain ongoing, and authorities continue to monitor the situation. At the time of reporting, no casualties have been reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
