As per reports, at least one person was killed and another injured due to an explosion that took place in the Sabzal Road area of Quetta in the afternoon hours of Thursday (01 February). Quetta Police, rescue teams Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) units have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is currently underway. Quetta Police have confirmed that the blast was triggered by an 08-10 kilogram improvised explosive device (IED). The police further stated that no election-related activities were occurring in the vicinity of the blast.
Explosions also took place in the Naseerabad and Turbat districts of the Balochistan Province between the morning and afternoon hours of Thursday (01 February). At least three people were injured in a hand grenade explosion at the Dera Allah Yar Bhatti gate area in Naseerabad, while one person was injured in a grenade blast in Turbat’s main market. It is currently unknown if these explosions were related to the election.
