As per reports, Pennsylvania–New Jersey–Maryland (PJM) Interconnection, the regional transmission organization responsible for managing the electric grid across 13 US states in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, has issued an Energy Emergency Alert in anticipation of high electricity demand on Monday (23 June).
• The alert was issued due to forecasts indicating that electricity demand may exceed 160 gigawatts.
• To respond to the anticipated strain on the grid, PJM has also declared a Maximum Generation Emergency, a formal measure that allows for the activation of additional power generation resources to meet projected demand.
• This action is taken to maintain grid stability and ensure the continued delivery of electricity to the approximately 65 million Americans served by PJM’s system.
• The affected area spans parts or all of the following states: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia.
