As per reports, the Czech government has extended the temporary border control measures with Slovakia until 02 February, as announced by Interior Minister Vit Rakusan. These measures, initially introduced in September and October along with Germany, Poland, and Austria, aim to address the rising issue of illegal migration into wealthier western European countries.
The move aligns with efforts to manage and curb the increasing influx of migrants, predominantly young men from the Middle East and Afghanistan, who traverse Slovakia to enter the European Union through Hungary, with many heading towards Germany.
