The Chinese Meteorological Observatory (CMO) has continued its forecast for a cold wave and moderate to heavy snowfall on the morning of Tuesday (10 December) to be in effect at least until 0800 hours on Friday (13 December) in parts of northern China including northern Xinjiang, southern Qinghai, eastern Gansu, southern Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Sichuan Plateau, southern Shanxi, western Henan, and northern Anhui. Here are the latest details:
• On Tuesday (10 December), CMO has forecast moderate to heavy snowfall and sleet to continue in parts of northern Xinjiang, southwestern and eastern Tibet, southern and eastern Qinghai, eastern Gansu, and southern Ningxia. Local blizzards are likely in parts of northern Xinjiang, along the Tianshan Mountains, and other affected regions.
• Beginning from Tuesday (10 December), a strong cold front will bring a widespread temperature drop across China. In addition, parts of Northwest China, Inner Mongolia, and other areas will experience strong winds with speeds of 4-6 degrees.
• Moreover, moderate to heavy snowfall or sleet in parts of eastern Northwest China, western Sichuan Plateau, Shandong peninsula, southern Shanxi, western Henan, and northern Anhui from Tuesday (10 December).
• Moreover, the Ministry of Transport and the Administration released a national major highway weather forecast for at 2000 hours on Monday (09 December), to be in effect until 2000 hours on Tuesday (10 December). The major roads affected by snowfall and haze in China include-
– Heavy snow: G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway (Ningxia-Gansu section), G22 Qinglan Expressway (Gansu Yuzhong), and G3012 Tuhe Expressway (Xinjiang).
– Light to moderate snow/sleet: G5 Beijing-Kunming Expressway (Sichuan Ya’an), G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway (Xining section), and National Highways (e.g., 109, 212, 213).
– Haze: G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway (Hunan-Guizhou section) and National Highways (e.g., 209, 213, 320).
• As per the CMO forecast, the cold front is expected to last until at least Friday (13 December).
