As per reports, from Wednesday (17 December) traffic organization is expected to change in multiple construction zones on the Bauska Highway (State Road A7) at the entrance to Riga and in the fourth phase of the Southern Bridge construction area.
• These changes are being reportedly implemented by the State Joint Stock Company Latvian State Roads (VSIA Latvijas valsts ceļi – LVC) in coordination with the Riga Municipality.
• The adjustments are reportedly linked to the progress of tunnel construction works beneath the Ķekava carriageway and preparatory works for the fourth-stage overpass of the Southern Bridge.
• At the Bauska Highway entrance to Riga, traffic is expected to be redirected from the left carriageway to the right carriageway in the direction of Ķekava. Traffic between the junction of the Southern Bridge and Ziepniekkalnas Street up to the constructed part of the tunnel is expected to be organized into three lanes, with two lanes designated for vehicles leaving Riga and one lane for vehicles entering Riga.
• In the remaining parts of the construction zone, traffic is expected to be restricted to one lane in each direction.
• Pedestrian movement is also expected to be maintained through marked and adjustable routes, including a temporary illuminated pedestrian crossing across the Bauska Highway.
• Public transport arrangements may also be adjusted, with the ‘Neilandi’ stop operating toward Ķekava and the ‘Krustkalni’ stop remaining in use toward Riga.
• Simultaneously, changes are scheduled to take effect in the fourth phase of the Southern Bridge construction zone due to works on the Ziepniekkalnas Street traffic overpass. The exit from Jāņa Čakstes gatve toward the Southern Bridge and Bauska direction will be closed.
• Traffic is expected to be redirected via a newly built roadway section to a temporary roundabout near the future overpass, providing access toward Bauska and back toward the Southern Bridge.
• Traffic from Ziepniekkalns toward the Southern Bridge may also be routed through this temporary roundabout. This traffic configuration is expected to remain in place until the end of May 2026.
