Building collapse in Mohali on Saturday (21 December); rescue operations ongoing as of Sunday (22 December)

As per reports, a multi-story building collapsed in the Sohana area of Mohali on Saturday (21 December), trapping several people. As of Sunday (22 December), rescue operations remain underway, with local authorities, Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel on site. Two persons have died in the collapse, while an unknown number of persons have been injured. Major hospitals in Mohali including Fortis, Max and others have been put on alert and asked to prepare for a mass-casualty event.

Police have also launched an investigation into the structure and filed a case against the builder, over potential suspicion of building and digging around the structure without compliance with regulatory requirements.
