Brain infection cases reported in Kerala; three dead - datasurfr

As per reports, four cases of the rare brain infection – amoebic meningoencephalitis has been reported in Kerala since May. Of the four cases reported three minors have died from the infection while one is undergoing treatment.

• Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Health Minister Veena George had met state government officials, on Friday (05 July) to discuss steps to curb the disease’s spread.
• In the meeting, it was also suggested that there should be proper chlorination of swimming pools and children should be careful when entering waterbodies as they are mostly affected by this disease.
• The minor under treatment was admitted to the hospital on 01 July, and is a resident of Payyoli in Kozhikode district of north Kerala; making the water bodies in the concerned area more susceptible to the infection.
