As per reports, a bomb attack occurred at a mosque within a police headquarters in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), on Friday (18 September).
The attack killed at least 15 people and injured more than 50 others. The following are additional details:
• The incident occurred following an explosive-laden vehicle reportedly rammed into the mosque entrance as worshippers gathered for Friday prayers.
• Additionally, the KP Inspector General of Police (IGP) stated that another suicide blast occurred near the Special Branch building during an exchange of fire between police personnel and the militants. Seven militants were killed during the ensuing operation.
• Security cordons have been established around the affected area, while the authorities have closed the Kohat-Hangu Road to all traffic.
• Rescue operations and heightened security measures remain underway, and the death toll could increase as several injured people are reportedly in critical condition.
• As of this update, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Pakistani authorities have accused Afghan militants of involvement, while Afghan authorities have denied the allegations.
