The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Thursday (03 October) issued warnings for light to moderate rainfall in most places across the country till Friday (04 October). Light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely in most places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. This is on account of active monsoon conditions over the Northern part of the Bay of Bengal. Furthermore, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Bangladesh and the adjoining North Bay of Bengal between Thursday and Friday (03-04 October).

Significant rainfall and disruptions have been recorded in Dhaka and other parts of the country, as follows:

• A nearly 10-kilometre-long traffic jam formed on the Narayanganj section of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway on Thursday (03 October) early morning, with authorities saying that continuous rainfall led to vehicular breakdowns and waterlogging. The most severe congestion was reported on the Chittagong-bound lane on the stretch from Sanarpar in Siddhirganj to the Keodhala area. Authorities are regulating traffic in the affected stretches presently.
• Overnight rainfall led to flooding in areas of Dhaka such as Shantinagar, Bailey Road, Dhanmondi, and most parts of Old Dhaka.
• The Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been put under Warning Signal-03, with advisories issued to small vessels to avoid venturing out into the waters of the North Bay of Bengal region.
