As per reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has threatened a statewide agitation if the ruling Congress dispensation proceeds with its decision to shut down nine universities.
• The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student wing affiliated with the BJP, held a round-table discussion on Friday (21 February) involving education experts, senior officials, and legislators.
• The discussion focused on a report submitted by a state cabinet subcommittee, which recommended closing the universities due to an estimated financial shortfall of INR 350 crore over the next five years.
• The BJP condemned the government’s financial reasoning, asserting that the previous BJP administration had established these institutions under the “One District, One University” model to ensure equitable access to education.
