According to reports, the health department in Indore has raised concerns after finding bacterial contamination in a significant number of water samples collected from various locations across the city. Out of 175 samples tested, 60 were deemed ‘unsatisfactory’ due to the presence of coliform bacteria, indicating potential health risks.

• Following directives from Collector Asheesh Singh, teams comprising the health department, public health engineering, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) conducted inspections of kitchens and water sources in hostels, dormitories, ashrams, and coaching institutes. Samples were collected from suspected sites as part of this inspection.
• This inspection was prompted by six deaths reported at Bal Ashram of Yugpurush Dham NGO, with cholera identified as a contributing factor in some cases. Meanwhile, IMC has collected 52 water samples from various locations and expects to receive their report by Wednesday.
• District epidemiologist Dr. Anshul Mishra cautioned the public against consuming contaminated water, highlighting the risk of diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and dysentery. He advised boiling water before consumption as a preventive measure.
