As per reports, the Assam Motor Workers Union (AMWU), consisting of drivers and operators of app-based taxis, has announced a 48-hour strike on Friday and Saturday (05-06 January) to protest against the newly implemented penalties under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Justice Code).
The Khasi Hills Tourist Taxi Association, the Greater Guwahati Tourist Taxi Association, and other bodies which operate tourist vehicles and private vehicles for-hire, have also extended their support to the strike.
