As per reports, the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will take place from Wednesday to Friday (04-06 September) in Beijing, which is scheduled to be attended by several heads of state from the African continent. Several heads of state have already arrived in China over the weekend (31 August-01 September).
• Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday (01 September) met with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola and Senegal’s Foreign Minister Yacine Fall respectively in Beijing.
• Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, South Sudanese President Salva Kiir, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, President of the Comoros Azali Assoumani, and Mali’s transitional president Assimi Goita have all arrived in Beijing on Saturday and Sunday (31 August-01 September).
• The FOCAC summit is set to introduce a series of new cooperation initiatives between the peoples of China and Africa. Meetings and programmes are scheduled with various Chinese ministries, universities, and will be attended by top Chinese leadership including President Xi Jinping.
