The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 25 kilometers north west of Takayama, Japan, at around 0811 hours (local time) on Wednesday (20 May).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 262.4 kilometers.
