The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) recorded a 4.0 magnitude earthquake off the coast of the Miyagi Prefecture at approximately 1519 hours (local time) on Monday (18 May). It occurred at a depth of 50 kilometres undersea.

Seismic Intensity-II was witnessed in the Soma City of Fukushima Prefecture, while Seismic Intensity-I was recorded in other coastal regions of the Fukushima, Iwate, and Miyagi Prefectures.
