Minor roads may also experience temporary closures or limited access.
• Local police will be deployed in each area to manage diversions and maintain local access for residents.
Background:
The Battle of the Somme was one of the largest battles of World War I, fought between 01 July and 18 November 1916, primarily between the British and French armies against the German Empire. It took place in the Somme River valley in northern France and was intended to break through German lines and relieve pressure on the French at Verdun.
Impact:
• Significant delays are expected in the evening hours, particularly in the town centres of Coleraine, Limavady, Garvagh, and East Belfast. Roads along and surrounding the parade routes will experience restricted vehicle access and extended travel times.
• Public transportation services operating along the affected corridors may face rerouting or temporary suspension during the parades. Passengers should prepare for possible changes to schedules or delays.
• Residents and businesses located within the parade zones may experience limited accessibility, especially near staging areas, memorials, and key intersections.
Recommendations:
It is advised to maintain caution while travelling, account for delays and monitor further updates via PSNI website (https://www.psni.police.uk).
