Description:

As per reports, authorities confirmed on Saturday (02 August) that the Islamabad Express, going to Rawalpindi from Lahore, derailed at Kala Shah Kaku, Sheikhupura, some 50 km from Lahore on Friday evening (01 August).

At least 10 coaches of the train derailed in Sheikhupura, leaving about 30 passengers injured, of whom three are in critical condition. Rescue efforts are underway to rescue passengers who are still trapped in the coaches.

Background:

A probe into the matter has been launched and the inquiry findings will be submitted within a week.

Impact:

Investigations and clearance work are likely to impact railway movement along the affected route. Trains earmarked for the route will either get rerouted, rescheduled or suspended, which in turn is likely to put pressure on alternate trains and modes of transportation.

Recommendations:

Advised to check train status and plan for travel accordingly. It is also advised to consider additional travel time.
