Description:

As per reports, the Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (AP-PTD) Employees Union has threatened to stage a statewide strike on Friday and Saturday (04-05 July), in support of their demand for promotions to lower-level employees. Following are the details:

• Employees across 129 depots and four workshops will participate in lunch-hour gate meetings and ‘dharnas’ (sit-in protests), wearing red badges during duty hours.
• The union leaders have demanded the payment of arrears of 24 months, and raised 30 other long-standing issues. Many of these issues have been pending, and raised repeatedly since the merger of the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with the AP Government in 2020.

Impact:

Localised disruptions may arise on account of demonstrations, in the vicinity of key APSRTC bus depots and workshops in major cities such as Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Amravati, Tirupati, and others.

The strike is also likely to affect inter- and intra-state passenger transport.
