Background:

Kanwar Yatra is annual Hindu pilgrimage observed by Lord Shiva devotees or Kanvaris/Bhole in the month of Sawan. The holy month of Shravan will start from 11 July 2025 and end on 09 August 2025.

The yatra includes carrying water from holy river Ganga to various shiva temples across India. The devotees walk barefoot for miles while chanting.

Impact:

• During the Kanwar Yatra, comprehensive traffic diversions and road closures are likely to be implemented to ensure the safety of the devotees and to maintain law and order. Businesses with supply chains between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are expected to face disruptions.
• Additional traffic diversions may be imposed based on situational requirements to ensure the safety of the devotees.
• Heightened security personnel deployment and increased patrolling can be expected along major highways and routes to control traffic movement, and to maintain law and order.
• Heightened police presence can be expected in the sensitive locations of Meerut, Bulandshahr, Baghput and Hapur districts during the yatra.

Recommendations:

It is advised for businesses to arrange for alternate routes for their transportation to minimise delays. Advised to plan travel and logistics while accounting for delays.
